Co-Design for Humanity: Equitable and Inclusive Futures

"The top environmental problems are not biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and climate change. They are selfishness, greed, and apathy" This is a statement which applies to almost any pressing issue we collectively face and is taken from an Inner Development Goal (IDG) video which truly encapsulates what the movement is all about.

The Inner Development Goals (IDG focuses on developing the inner capacity of individuals to drive action towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The IDGs has garnered support from institutions, universities, and private sector entities including Google, IKEA, and Spotify. Contributors to the movement includes scientific advisors from Harvard Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Stockholm School of Economics, among others.

Natalie was a facilitator and speaker at the inaugural Doha IDG Hub event at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University's College of Public Policy. We explored the importance of the IDGs in developing individuals to be able to effectively drive progress in the SDGs through an interactive activity with local students, resulting in AI-generated images of our ideal Qatar in the year 2074.

The Game Changers: Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders Through Sport

Thank you very much to Save The Dream for featuring the youth voice at 'The GameChangers: developing skills and promoting positive change through sport and its values' event.

Speakers included high-level representatives from leading organizations based in Doha such as Generation Amazing, Aspire Academy, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Josoor Institute, Qatar Foundation, the UNESCO Office for the Gulf States and Yemen in Doha, and the EU Delegation to Qatar, and athletes like Nada Mohammed Wafa, Dual Olympian, London 2012 and Rio 2016, Ali Alobaidli, Qatar's first World snooker champion, Mariam Farid, Runner, Member of Qatar's National Team of Athletics, and Wejdan Majed Al Malki, Athlete, CDI5* Grand Prix Dressage.

Held on the eve of the Qatar's National Sports Day, the event provided a unique opportunity for young people to understand the role of sport with regard to the development of transversal skills, promotion of societal values and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We hope that all attendees were empowered and gained insights into the power sports holds in peace-building, leadership and skill-building, and the opportunities available in the world of sport from careers to volunteering.

Cultural Exchange - QYP x Mexican Embassy in Qatar x Doha Portals

We held our first cultural exchange event with the Mexican Embassy in Qatar with support from Doha Portals, involving 8 youth in Qatar and 8 youth in Mexico. They had the unique opportunity to engage in a debate on the topic of whether we should ban gasoline cars, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the industry, its effects on the climate crisis and other issues, and how such problems manifest in different countries and continents. We are so grateful to Doha Debates for their support in making this event happen and the youth from Mexico through the Embassy of Mexico in Qatar.

QYP x KPMG Insight Evening

On July 12th 2023, 12 participants from QYP had the amazing opportunity to attend an insight evening at KPMG Qatar, one of the Big 4 consulting firms in the world. They learnt insightful finance, consulting and business related aspects of the company such as Audit, Tax, Advisory and CCS (Company Community Services). Students were also given advice about starting up their careers in a consulting firm. The students had a great opportunity to learn this directly from the KPMG executive team about what it takes to run a global and international consulting firm and about the industry more widely. We are so grateful for their generosity in organizing this event and we look forward to working together with KPMG Qatar and developing more incredible and knowledgeable experiences for our youth community!

Capacity-building at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University for the First Assalam School

What is your passion? What world issue resonates with you most? How can we unite the two to change the world? These were the three questions our founder, Natalie Magness, explored today with 50 incredible young girls from the First Assalam School, a school that serves underprivileged students in Qatar facing barriers to accessing quality education.

At a capacity-building workshop hosted at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University, drawing on Natalie's journey in founding Qatar Youth Power, she spoke of the importance of youth empowerment and leadership to drive positive social change.

The girls taught Natalie just as much as she taught them, if not more, through their passions, dreams, and aspirations to change the world, despite the unimanigable hardships they face.

Meeting them reminded Natalie of how much she has, the education she has been so privileged to receive, both in Doha and London, and how crucial it is that we never forget to give back to the communities that made us who we are.

Curia Business Group Workshop

In the summer of 2022, the QYP team were invited to an exclusive marketing and branding workshop with Curia Business Group (Bin Yousef). We gained a tremendous amount from the session and have already begun implementing many of the ideas and techniques we discussed. We are grateful to the team at Curia Business Group for their continued support of our work and look forward to learning more from them.

In July and August 2021, the QYP Team and conference attendees were invited to Hilton Hotel Doha for World Youth Skills Day and International Youth Day. We are grateful for their generosity in organising these events and look forward to continuing to work together to deliver unmatched learning and development experiences to our community.

QYP SDG 7 Competition

In the summer of 2021, we hosted our first sustainable development goal event, specifically on SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy). It was a competition to design the most innovative and sustainable energy-harnessing system using the 3D sandbox game Minecraft. Contestants were students aged 12 to 18 who produced incredible and creative ideas for harnessing different forms of renewable energy from solar to wind power. We are grateful to our event partners, Doha Environmental Actions Project (DEAP), Syquez Trading Company Qatar, and the Hamad Bin Khalifa University, for their support.

QYP Conference 2021

In April 2021, Natalie Magness founded QYP with the intention of creating a platform to empower young people through leadership. Qatar Youth Power is the first and only student-initiated conference in Qatar to empower the youth of Qatar for positive impact through learning from the nation's brightest change-makers.

In June, we hosted our inaugural conference which culminated in a two-day online event of interactive workshops, panels and keynotes, attracting over 1220 registrants, 30 guest speakers, 30 press releases, and overwhelming support from the local community. Highlights also include a feature on Her Excellency Al-Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani's official Instagram page.

We were fortunate to have with us many high-profile guest speakers including Mr. Khalifa Al Haroon, Founder of I Love Qatar and media personality; Mr. Hamad Al Amari, comedian and entrepreneur; Miss Fatima El Mahdi, Head of THIMUN Qatar; Mr. Neeshad Shafi, climate advocate and Executive Director of the Arab Youth Climate Movement; and speakers from the World Innovation Summit for Education.

Following the conference's success, several local companies approached us, including Virtuocity and Qatar Social Work. Furthermore, Hilton Doha invited the team and other conference attendees to their venue for World Youth Skills Day and for International Youth Day to learn first-hand about the hospitality industry from the hotel's executive team.
